TR Legacy Controls: Gears, Cameras, and Handbrake

The public developer description gives a compact PC keyboard reference. These bindings were checked again on July 31, 2026.

Official keyboard bindings

The description does not publish a complete mobile or controller layout. Check those controls in the current client instead of assuming a keyboard mapping transfers directly.

Automatic or manual

Automatic transmission reduces the number of decisions you make while learning a route. Manual transmission adds direct shift control, but it does not fix a missed braking point or unstable steering.

Use this practice order:

1. Ride the same short route in automatic.
2. Record one clean time and the number of resets or crashes.
3. Press M to switch transmission.
4. Repeat the same route with Q and E.
5. Keep manual only if the run becomes more consistent or serves a specific need.

Do not compare different routes, bikes, and transmission modes in the same test. The map guide shows how to keep one route constant.

Camera and first person

Press V to cycle the camera. The developer labels V + B as movable first person. Practice each view at low speed so you know how much road remains visible before trying it in a race.

Freecam is mapped to Shift + P. It is useful for viewing the environment, but it is not a riding view. Return to a normal camera before testing route performance.

Handbrake practice

Shift is the published handbrake input. Treat it as a deliberate control, not a default cornering shortcut. On one quiet section:

• approach at the same speed three times;
• brake before the turn on the first run;
• test a brief handbrake input on the second;
• repeat the more stable method on the third.

The useful result is not the most dramatic slide. It is the method you can repeat without losing the line.

Troubleshooting inputs

If a binding seems unresponsive, leave any text field or menu first. Toggle transmission once and check the visible state before using Q or E. Rejoin a current server after an update if the interface and the official description appear out of sync.
